The Bottom's Rest is Brighton Gin's friendly Hove corner pub.

A pub for all seasons, you’ll find it snug in winter with a roaring log fire, and a little sun trap in summer with plenty of outdoor seating. There are of course delicious G&Ts and plenty of Brighton Gin based cocktails to enjoy, alongside an excellent pint of real ale, refreshing lager, cider, keg beers, wines and spirits, as well as low- and no-alcohol options.

Sunday’s roasts are hugely popular, with a choice of meat or vegan, and they’re all gluten free too - but you'll need to book! The pub’s available for private hire as a great venue for parties and celebrations, and there’s a monthly pub quiz with cash prizes and a consolation prize round of crisps.

Find us at 16 Lower Market Street, Hove BN3 1AT, tucked just behind the historic Old Market Theatre. You'll always find a warm welcome, and plenty of Brighton Gin!

A brief history of the Bottom's Rest...

The pub dates back to the 1860s. Originally named The Conqueror, at the turn of the 20th century it was the base for Hove Western Star Football Club and the Brighton Mitre Cycling Club.

Pub-goers in the 1980s will recall a pub that was as likely to play host to Goths, punks, LGBTQ+ people and the obligatory old geezer propping up the bar nursing a pint of bitter. It was ruled by redoubtable landlady Muriel, cigarette smouldering in her hand, a giant golden dog at her heel, the nylon carpets ingrained with decades of tobacco smoke and spilled beer.

Fast forward to 2014 and the pub was re-named the Bottom’s Rest for its proximity to the neighbouring Old Market venue, referencing ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Gone were the sticky carpets and the portraits of Muriel and the giant dog gracing the chimney breast, and the two small bars were knocked through into one.

Fast forward again to 2023 and the pub’s now run by the team at Brighton Gin. No doubt Muriel would smile to see the friendly mix of people in the pub today, that dogs are still welcome and it’s got a 5-star food hygiene rating…. But sorry Muriel, you’ll have to have that ciggy outside now!
